September 17, 1913 US Open Wednesday Qualifier
Ted Ray was low Wednesday qualifier, and low qualifier for the tournament.
In the process he establishes what will be a very short lived Country Club record for
a 36-hole single day outing.
Francis Ouimet meets famous golf writer Bernard Darwin,
and asks Mr. Darwin if he has ever played golf. Bernard Darwin was not only one
of the top golf writers of all time but in his prime was a very highly ranked
British Amateur. Twice making the British Amateur Championship semi-finals.
Wilfred Reid and Robert McDonald both shoot 72's
in the morning round but back to back 74's by Edward Ray make him low qualifier
for the day.
Late afternoon Francis finds the pairing board and learns he'll be teeing off
at 10:30 with Canadian professional Karl
Keffer 1909 and 1914 Canadian Open Champion.
Tom Bonnar of Mecklenburg GC finds himself
paired with
Harry Vardon.
