The clubhouse  manager

Let’s go have a talk with the club manager, he or she will be glad to see you.....

  • Is the operating schedule pretty regular with the seasons, or is it changing constantly at the whim of the club house committee?
  • How long have you been employed here? How about the kitchen staff? The length of time for the chef? What about the wait staff? How is their seniority? How about the locker room steward? Do you have a locker room steward?
  • How does the locker room look? Is it clean and neat and well constructed, or does it look like an afterthought that’s being maintained that way?
  • How about the handicap board? Well maintained, or numbers uneven and falling off?
  • Take a look at the bulletin board. Is it up to date and filled with notices of upcoming events or filled with notices of events that took place three months ago?
  • Is it up to date and are there upcoming events that would be of interest to you? How are these events attended? How are the social activities attended?
  • When is the last time there was a major cleaning or major renovation of the clubhouse?
  • When is the next renovation planned?
  • How dependent is the club on its’ restaurant or grill room for revenue?
  • How dependent is the club on outside functions? What kind of quirks are built into the building and what kind of problems do they create? i.e. Electrical services, plumbing services.
  • Are there central services or multiple locations?
  • Are there adequate drawings of the facility for outside service people to service the people?
  •  If not, how much does it cost to keep this place maintained?
  • What is the frequency of members receiving assessments, maintenance charges and dues?
  • Are they keeping up with the operating budget, or is the place ever so slowly falling apart?
  • How often does this club change its’ house chairman? It does have a house chairman, doesn’t it?
  • What is the biggest complaint from the club members that you as the club manager can do absolutely about? How long has this problem existed and do you think any house committee will ever provide you the resources to fix it?
  • Do you consider this a golf club or a country club?

Now if this has gone in any kind of comfortable and civil manner you've been invited to lunch or cocktails and are getting a very clear look into the running of the club house and where it and its function fit in the eyes of the community members. If it hasn't gone as hoped and the discomfort level continues to rise you'll definitely  want to know why and question if your comfort level will improve after you purchase that lovely little home at 23 Fairway Drive.
