The above quote from Golf Week magazine, January 2008.

Old Tom Morris laid out this referenced nine holer as an 18 hole layout over 120 years ago and golfers are still excited about what this man brought to golf at 70 years of age.

In June 1891 "Old" Tom Morris accompanied by his companion British golfing great Horace Hutchinson, traveled to South Uist at the request of the landowners to inspect the machair lands with a view to laying out a new course. "Old" Tom eventually laid out eighteen holes on the rolling dunes of Askernish Farm, although he declared that the choice of links land available was "staggering."  A visit to the photo gallery on the Askernish Golf Club web site will take the breath away of even the most casual golfer.
